Adjudicator Comments
There was an encouraging response to this year`s competition - 42 entries in all - and it was good to see schools taking part. The general standard of the entries was high.
However the competition asked for a newspaper article about a particular event and a number of the entries instead gave a genefal account of the revolt, often very good, but not quite what was required. Although there could only be one award per section, the highly commended and commended entries came very near to success.
I suspect that many of the entrants are more familiar with television news than newspapers, but there were some interesting tabloid-style layouts (including adverts) and a creative use of illustrations and artwork.
Competition Task
Write a newspaper article about an event from Glyndŵr’s Uprising.
The article must not exceed 500 words and it must include at least one picture or drawing
(You can find details of many of these events on the Owain Glyndŵr Society’s website )
