Anthropengenic (Extract) by Michael Anthony Oliver-Seminovy

Yesterday I began my day watching a video online:

The herding and clubbing to death of entire dolphin pods;

I have no plans to do anything about it.

The sea ran red with blood,

I'm doing my best to forget.

I know of the manganese ferroalloy plant being built near Krasnoyarsk, which will produce ferromanganese and silicone-manganese alloys

I know that there is a danger during the processing of manganese ore that it may cause

Reduction in life expectancy in nearby cities;

Functional failure of the liver of those who live near;

the emergence of idiocy in 98% of all births;

a sharp increase in cancer.

I plan to raise my children there one day

My thoughts are spent on what job will I have,

Where we will live, how comfortable will we be.

It is my attitude that will bring the oncoming tide.

Quotes from the NWR review by Kat Dawes:

‘M.A. Oliver-Semenov’s four pieces explore Russia and a sense of inertia, the difficulty of changing things. The final poem ‘Anthropogenic’ is especially haunting…the collection as a whole is well worth exploring.’
